Climatology & Weather Forecasting -Articles-open-access

Climatology and weather forecasting is important because it helps to determine expectations for future climate. By using latitude one can determine the probability that snow and hail will reach the surface. You can also identify the sun's thermal energy which is accessible to a region. Climatology is the scientific study of climates, which is defined as the mean weather conditions over a period of time. A branch of study within atmospheric sciences, it also takes into account the variables and averages of short-term and long-term weather conditions. Climatology is different from meteorology, and can be split into different study areas. Various approaches can be taken to this field, including paleoclimatology, which focuses on studying the climate over the course of the existence of the Earth by examining records of tree rings, rocks and sediments, and ice core. Historical climatology focuses primarily on historical climate change and the effects of the climate on people and events over time. Though both climatology and meteorology are study areas that are considered branches of similar study areas, climatology differs from meteorology because its focus is on long-term averages of weather and climatic conditions. Meteorology focuses more on current weather conditions such as humidity, air pressure and temperatures and predicts the weather conditions to come in the short term.
