Androgen Receptor

 The androgen receptor, also referred to as NR3C4 may be a sort of nuclear receptor which is activated by binding either of the androgenic hormones, testosterone, or dihydrotestosterone within the cytoplasm and then translocating into the nucleus. The main function is to regulate gene expression. Inhibition of androgen receptor leads to normal and malignant prostate tissue. Developing resistance can be seen after certain period i,e androgen-insensitive prostate cancer also known as hormone-refractory prostate cancer or castrate resistant prostate cancer(CRPC). The androgen receptor (AR), also referred to as NR3C4 (nuclear receptor subfamily 3, group C, member 4), may be a sort of nuclear receptor that's activated by binding any of the androgenic hormones, including testosterone and dihydrotestosterone within the cytoplasm then translocating into the nucleus. The androgen receptor is most closely associated with the progesterone receptor, and progestins in higher dosages can block the androgen receptor. The main function of the androgen receptor is as a DNA-binding transcription factor that regulates gene expression; however, the androgen receptor has other functions also. Androgen-regulated genes are critical for the event and maintenance of the male sexual phenotype. The androgen receptor (AR) exists in normal liver also as in human hepatoma (HCC) tissues. Recent studies revealed that AR plays a crucial role in hepatitis B viral also as hepatitis C viral hepatocarcinogenesis. The targeting of AR could be developed as a replacement therapeutic option against HCC. This article provides information regarding the association between AR and HCC.
