The science and technology of creating objects from inorganic and non-metallic materials is known as Ceramic engineering. Using precipitation reactions from high-purity chemical solutions this is done either by the action of heat, or at lower temperatures. The term includes the study and production of the chemical compounds, the purification of raw materials and their formation into components, composition and properties. Ceramic materials are known to have crystalline or partly crystalline structure while glass ceramics may have an amorphous or glassy structure. The many special applications of ceramic materials are in electrical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering and chemical engineering.
