Pre-eclampsia Scholarly Peer Review Journal
Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy condition characterized by the onset of elevated blood pressure and sometimes a large amount of urinary protein. After 20 weeks of pregnancy the condition starts when it arises.
Preeclampsia can lead to eclampsia, a serious condition that can pose
health risks to mum and baby and cause death in rare cases. They have eclampsia for women with
preeclampsia who have seizures. Giving birth is the only cure to preeclampsia. Symptoms of
preeclampsia can last from 1 to 6 weeks or more, even after delivery.
Preeclampsia can occur during pregnancy as early as 20 weeks, but this is uncommaon. Symptoms frequently start after 34 weeks. Symptoms develop in a few instances after birth, usually within 48 hours of delivery. They tend to leave by themselves but can last up to 12 weeks after birth.
