Pharmacogenomics Applications
Pharmacogenomics is the study of role of the
genome in response of drug. The applications of
pharmacogenomics are Tailor treatments to meet patients' unique genetic pre-disposition, Improve drug safety, and reduce ADRs, Improve drug discovery targeted to human disease, identifying optimal dosing, and Improve proof of principle for efficacy trials.
Pharmacogenomics are applicable to several areas of medicine, including cardiology, pain management,
psychiatry and oncology. Through the use of pharmacogenomics, it's hoped that pharmaceutical drug treatments can deviate from what's dubbed because the "one-dose-fits-all" approach. Such approaches promise the arrival of precision medicine and even personalized medicine, during which
drugs and drug combinations are optimized for narrow subsets of patients or maybe for every individual's unique genetic makeup. Whether wont to explain a patient's response or lack thereof to a treatment, or act as a predictive tool, it hopes to realize better treatment outcomes, greater efficacy, minimization of the occurrence of drug toxicities and
adverse drug reactions (ADRs). For patients who have lack of therapeutic response to a treatment, alternative therapies are often prescribed that might best suit their requirements. In order to supply
pharmacogenomics recommendations for a given drug, two possible sorts of input are often used:
genotyping or exome or whole
genome sequencing.
