Leprosy Genetic Susceptibility

Leprosy is a type of infectious disease caused by mycobacterium leprae.  Leprosy mainly infects the skin and Schwann cells in the peripheral nerves. Leprosy factors can be also determined by genetically facto and environmental factors. In general, more than 90% of people can have the ability to develop immunity against the disease. The other people who do not create immunity get affected by the pathogens and leads to the change in the immune response. Genetical factors play an important role against this disease. Protection is provided by individual genetic factors. The susceptibility is found among the leprosy strains. So, leprosy is considered a genetic susceptibility disease.
