Evolutionary Biology Impact-factor
Evolutionary biology is the field of biology that studies the process of
evolution (natural selection, common ancestry, speciation) that results in the diversity of life on Earth. The range of research investigations is now widened to cover the architecture of genetic adaptation, molecular evolution, and various forces that contribute to evolution, such as sexual selection, genetic drift, and biogeography. In addition, the more recent field of
evolutionary development biology ("evo-devo") investigates how embryogenesis, embryo development, is controlled, so as to produce a broader synthesis that integrates
developmental biology with fields of study covered by previous
evolutionary syntheses. Biology can be divided in various ways. One way is by the level of biological organization, from
molecules to cells, organisms to populations. The previous way was to perceive taxonomic groups, with fields such as zoology, botany, and microbiology, which reflected what was once seen as the main division of life.
