Bioremediation Peer Reviewed Journals
Bioremediation mainly uses micro-organisms, plants, or
microbial or
plant enzymes to detoxify contaminants in the soil and other environments. Most processes of
bioremediation involve oxidation-reduction reactions where either an electron acceptor is added to stimulate a reduced pollutant's oxidation or an electron donor is added to reduce oxidized pollutants. Additional nutrients, vitamins , minerals and pH supplements may be applied to optimize conditions for the microorganisms in any of these strategies.
Bioremediation is a method used to treat polluted products, including water , soil and subsurface material, by altering
environmental conditions to promote
microorganism growth and degrade target contaminants. In many cases,
bioremediation is cheaper and more sustainable than other remediation alternatives. Biological treatment is a common solution to
waste management, including wastewater, agricultural
