Historically, the study of zoology can be seen as a series of animal analysis and classification efforts. In the fourth century B.C.E., the ancient Greek scientist Aristotle is credited with devising the method of classification of animals that identified similarities among different organisms; he grouped classes of animals according to reproductive style and environment. Around the 12th century, zoology started to develop as a discipline which previously had been governed by pathology research which attempts to identify species. The Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus created a nomenclature scheme that is still used today — the binomial genus and species system — and defined as a taxonomy of the discipline. Zoology today is as complex as the population of animals it examines, expanding its reach to include areas such as genetics and biochemistry. This is also called an interdisciplinary field utilizing a vast range of methods to gain awareness of the animals' domain. For example , genetic DNA research from different organisms may give insight into their evolutionary history. Zoologists that concentrate on morphology (structure analysis, including muscles , bones, cells, and components of cells) use several techniques that were first used in the biochemistry laboratory. Zoology is concise, as well as empirical. It may either be viewed as a fundamental science, or as an advanced science. An employee of simple zoology is involved of understanding animals for his own sake, without taking into account the practical application of the knowledge obtained
