Traumatic-brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury ( TBI) is an external mechanical impact non-degenerative, non-congenital attack to the brain, likely leading to permanent or temporary loss of cognitive, physical, and psychosocial functions, with associated reduced or altered state of consciousness. The TBI definition was not consistent and appears to differ depending on the specialties and circumstances. The term brain injury is often used synonymously with head injury, which may not be linked to neurological deficits. Traumatic brain injury typically occurs from a violent blow to the head or body or from a jolt. An object that penetrates brain tissue may also cause traumatic brain damage, such as a bullet or broken fragment of skull. Milder traumatic brain injury may temporarily affect your brain cells. More serious traumatic brain injury can cause bruising, torn tissues, bleeding and other brain damage. These injuries can cause complications or death in the long term.
