Spine Articles

The spine consists of 33 bones mounted one above the other. This spinal column is the body's primary strength, which helps you to stand upright, bend, and rotate while shielding the spinal cord from damage. A stable spine is supported by solid muscles and bones, robust tendons and ligaments and receptive nerves. Yet any of these systems that are damaged by stress, injury , or illness can cause pain. The spine is around 18 inches in length, and is your thumb's thickness. It runs from the brainstem to the 1st protected lumbar vertebra inside the spinal canal. The cord fibers segregate into the cauda equina at the end of the spinal cord, and travel down to the tailbone through  spinal canal before branching off to the feet and legs. The spinal cord acts as a superhighway of information, relaying signals in between brain and the body. The brain transmits motor messages through the spinal cord to the limbs and the body allowing mobility.
