It is concerned with managing an entire production or service system which is the process that converts inputs into outputs. Operations produce products, manage quality and create services. Operation management covers sectors like hospitals,
banking systems, companies, working with suppliers, customers, and using technology. Operations is one among the main functions in a corporation along side supply chains, marketing,
finance and human resources. The operations function requires management of both the strategic and day-to-day production of products and services.In managing manufacturing or service operations on some kinds of decisions including operations strategy, product design, process design, quality management, capacity, facilities planning, production planning and control . Each of those requires a capability to research the present situation and find better solutions to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of producing or service operations. The industrial revolution was facilitated by two elements: interchangeability of parts and division of labor. Division of
labor has been a feature from the start of civilization, the extent to which the division is administered varied considerably counting on period and site . Compared to the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery were characterized by a greater specialization in labor, which was a characteristic of the growing cities and
trade networks of Europe.
