Nanovehicles

Nanotechnology is a fast-growing field, with various medical and dermatological applications. There has been an boom in research and development for nanotechnology based products and devices over the last few years. On a very small scale, nanotechnology utilizes the peculiar properties of matter. As particle size decreases, the size , shape and surface properties of matter take on an exponentially greater importance. In agriculture, plant transformation is a versatile crop improvement platform with the aim of increasing resistance to pests and improving the nutrient profile. Nanotechnology can solve a variety of problems facing traditional gene delivery methods. In particular, nanomaterials provide an ideal medium for biomolecule delivery with specific physiochemical properties as well as the ability to cross the plant cell wall's daunting barrier. We review the potential for obtaining desired genetic traits from diverse nanovehicles for biomolecule delivery in plant systems. Nanoparticles against pests or pathogens, as well as the interaction of nanovehicles with plant organelles, taking due consideration of the effects and toxic profile of nanoparticles. Small vehicles up to 1,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair shrouded in biological camouflage may provide new ways to treat cancer with less side-effects.
