Environmental Management

An environmental management system (EMS) is 'a system and database that integrates staff training procedures and processes, monitoring, summarizing and reporting to internal and external stakeholders of a company' of specialized environmental performance information. International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) 14001 is the most commonly used standard on which an EMS is based. Alternatives to this include the EMAS. An Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) or Environmental Data Management System (EDMS) is an information technology solution for a company to track environmental data as part of their overall management system for the environment. An EMS may also be defined as a system that monitors tracks and reports information on emissions, especially regarding the oil and gas industry.
