A breakdown of the tooth enamel causes the dental caries or cavities, more commonly known as tooth decay. This breakdown is the product of teeth bacteria breaking down foods and producing acid which destroys tooth enamel and results in tooth decay. Although dental caries are largely preventable, children aged 6 to 11 and adolescents aged 12 to 19 are still the most common chronic disease.Among adolescents aged 14 to 17 years. Dental caries also affect adults, with 9 out of 10 over 20 years of age having some degree of decay from the tooth-root. Water fluoridation, named by CDC as one of the twentieth century 's ten great achievements in public health, was a major contributor to declining tooth decay rates. Studies have shown that water fluoridation can reduce childhood teeth's decay by 18-40 per cent
