Chest Wall Musculature

Myotomy derives from the muscular portion of the chest wall.. In the abdominal region, the muscles are arranged in three layers . The outer layer, external muscle, internal oblique and transverse, is the same layer as the thoracic area Muscle Pectoral Major. In the linea semilunaris, three oblique layers of muscle are fused to form the rectal sheath. That muscle originates from the hipbone 's body and crest. Its fiber runs vertically and inserts a 7th-5th costal cartilage at the anterior surface of the xiphoid process. Similarly the longitudinal muscles are found in the cervical region by sternothyriod sternohyoid, sternocleidomastoid, thyrohyoid, geniohyoid, and omohyoid.     In humans the thoracic region's longitudinal muscle is absent. Occasionally, in some cases, the longitudinal muscle of the thorax was found and referred to as the rectus sternalis Superficial to the pectoralis major, some muscle fibers may pass vertically from the lower costal cartilages and rectus sheath to mix up with the sternocleidomastoid, (or) be attached to the sternocleidomastoid.
