Biomaterials Journals Publications
Biomaterials are fields of study in which scientists engineer substances to direct, through the use of living organisms, therapeutic or diagnostic procedures. At BE, there are professors who study
biomaterials to manipulate immune cells, administer
drugs in new ways, and create complex microstructures of tissue. In the simplest sense,
biomaterials are basically materials that are able to come into contact with the body for certain purposes. The goals are varied and generally can be as a prosthetic (artificial limbs, heart valves, stents etc.) or as a biomedical device (hearing aids, contact lenses etc.). Medical devices have long been able to achieve extraordinary achievements despite being clunky, side effects, or just foreign to human tissue. That's because the benefits outweigh the side effects - patients are better off using the device than not.
