Translational research – a term often used interchangeably with translational medicine or translational science, or bench to bedside – is an effort to build upon basic scientific research to create new therapies, medical procedures, or diagnostics. The adjective 'translation' refers to the 'translation' of basic scientific findings in a laboratory setting into potential disease treatments.  Translational research applies basic-science findings to improve human health and well-being. Translational research adopts a scientific investigation / enquiry into a particular problem faced by medical / health practices to overcome such a problem that helps to increase overall health performance. In a context of medical research it aims to "translate" findings into medical practice and meaningful health outcomes in fundamental research. Translational research implements a "bench-to-bedside" approach, from laboratory experiments through clinical trials to point-of - care applications for patients, modeling, harnessing basic science knowledge to produce new drugs, devices, and patient treatment options.
