In Japan, a "first-class draftsman" plays the dual role of architect and building engineer, though the services of a licensed "structural design first-class architect" are required for buildings above a certain scale. In languages, such as Korean and Arabic, "architect" is literally decoded as "architectural engineer". In certain countries, an "architectural engineer" is entitled to practice architecture and is often stated to as an architect. These individuals are often also structural engineers. In further countries, such as Germany, Austria, Iran, and maximum of the Arab countries, architecture graduates receive an engineering degree. In Spain, an "architect" has a practical university education and legal powers to perform building structure and facility projects.
