Adjuvant-Therapy

After primary treatments , such as surgery, adjuvant therapy is often used to lessen the chances of your cancer returning. Even if the operation has been effective in eliminating all visible cancer, often small cancer bits remain, and are undetectable with current methods. Adjuvant therapy is called neoadjuvant therapy, provided prior to the main care. This form of adjuvant therapy can also decrease the risk of cancer returning, and is also used to make the primary therapy such as surgery or radiation treatment simpler or more effective. Adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy may cause severe side effects, and not everyone benefits from such treatments. Forms of cancer treatment used as adjuvant therapy include: Chemotherapy, treatment with hormones, treatment with radiation, immunotherapy, targeted therapy.
