Structural engineering includes the analysis and design of the built
environment (buildings, towers, equipment supports, bridges, and walls). Those concentrating on buildings are at times informally referred to as "building engineers". Structural engineers need knowledge in structural analysis, strength of materials, and in predicting structural load such as from weight of the occupants, building, and contents, and extreme events such as wind, ice, rain, and seismic design of structures which is denoted to as earthquake engineering. Architectural Engineers sometimes include structural as one feature of their designs; the structural discipline when practiced as a specialty works thoroughly with architects and other engineering specialists. Distinguished from architecture as an art of design, architectural engineering, is the art and science of engineering and construction as trained in respect of buildings.
