Thermal Comfort Temperatures

Thermal comfort is the state of mind which expresses satisfaction with the thermal environment and is evaluated by subjective assessment. The physical body are often viewed as a engine where food is that the input energy. The physical body will generate excess heat into the environment, therefore the body can still operate. The heat transfer is proportional to the difference in temperature. The body loses more heat to the environment in cold environments, and the body doesn't exert sufficient heat in hot environments. Both the recent and cold scenarios cause discomfort. One of the important goals of HVAC design engineers is to maintain this standard of thermal comfort for the occupants of buildings or other enclosures. Thermal neutrality is maintained when the warmth generated by human metabolism is allowed to dissipate, thus maintaining equilibrium with the environment . The main factors that influence thermal comfort are people that determine heat gain and loss, namely rate , clothing insulation, air temperature, mean radiant temperature, air speed and ratio . Psychological parameters, like individual expectations, also affect thermal comfort. The temperature of thermal comfort can vary greatly between individuals and depends on factors such as level of activity, clothing and humidity. The Predicted Mean Vote model stands among the foremost recognized thermal comfort models. It was developed using heat balance principles and experimental data gathered under steady state conditions during a controlled climate chamber.
