Sports medicine, also known as sports and exercise medicine (SEM), is a medical field concerned with physical
health and the diagnosis and prevention of sports and activity related accidents. The aim of sports medicine is to help people engage in exercise safely and effectively to achieve their goals of training. Physical medicine physicians are specialist professionals specializing in diagnosing and treating sports- or exercise-related
trauma and illness. Although certain sports medicine doctors deal primarily for athletes, the rest can treat everyone following a sporting accident that needs care. Sports science, also referred to as exercise science, is the centered study of biology ,
anatomy and
psychology concepts as they apply to human action and physical activity. As a discipline, exercise science is currently in its infancy and focused mainly on clinical studies.
