Proteomics-Journals-Publications
Proteomics is a complex field of study consisting of three main areas of research : structural proteomics which investigates the 3D structure of a protein; Proteomics is the analysis of the whole protein complement of a cell , tissue or organism under a specific, defined set of conditions. It is dependent upon decades of technological and instrumental developments in its present state. Such innovations included advances in technology for
mass spectrometry (MS), techniques for protein fractionation,
bioinformatics and so on. Advances in this technology have permitted the resolution of thousands of proteins in a single gel. No proteomics field has grown faster than the
bioinformatics market. Proteomics is critically dependent on
bioinformatics to transform raw spectral mass data into data about proteins. While every laboratory uses them routinely, the most critical software programs are those that take
peptide mapping and/or tandem MS results and determine the protein or
peptide sequence that matches the experimental data most closely.
