Amica Agave, formerly Polianthes tuberosa, tuberose, is an annual
plant in the Asparagaceae family, a subfamily of Agavoideae, an extract used as a note in fragrances. Now widely planted as an ornamental plant, this
species originally came from Mexico. Polianthes / ˌ is a genus of plants previously known in the Asparagaceae family, the subfamily of Agavoideae. Molecular phylogenetic studies show that Polianthes is embedded in the larger genus Agave, which has been expanded to include it. One of its members is tuberose, Agave amica, formerly Polianthes tuberosa, a
plant commonly used in making perfumes. It is a BULB that grows to 1 m (3ft 3in) x 0.2 m (0ft 8in). Hardy to zone (UK) 9 and very soft. This
species is hermaphrodite (has male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy) and medium (clay) soils and prefers well drained soils. Appropriate pH: acidic, neutral and alkaline soils. It can't grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.
