Osteonecrosis-Peer-review Journals
Osteonecrosis, much like arthritis, can cause severe pain and disability. The result may improve early diagnosis and early treatment. Usage of glucocorticoid (sometimes called corticosteroid) medication or drinking too much alcohol can cause osteonecrosis. Although osteonecrosis can occur in almost any bone of the body, the most common sites affected are hips, knees and shoulders. The human body's bones and bone marrow are made up of living
cells which require a steady supply of blood to stay healthy. If blood flow to these
bone cells diminishes significantly, the
cells may die, causing the bone to collapse. This method is known as osteonecrosis. Osteonecrosis can lead to discomfort,
arthritis and limited joint use. Some people may also require
surgery for a joint replacement. Most of them who experience osteonecrosis every year are aged 20 to 50.
