Orthopedic trauma is a severe injury to part of the musculoskeletal system, which is often the result of a traumatic incident that needs urgent medical attention. Although not all orthopedic traumas are life-threatening, it is life-changing. Therefore it is extremely necessary to select your doctor. Orthopedic trauma doctors are unique in that they specialize throughout the body in complex injuries to bones , joints, and soft tissues (such as muscles, tendons , and ligaments). Most orthopedic surgeons specialize on only one section of the body. Others can have more general treatment but they won't treat more severe injuries, which are more difficult to repair physically. However, orthopedic trauma doctors undergo training in the area of orthopedic surgery with a special emphasis on care of broken bones and joint realignment to facilitate healthy healing and restore mobility to damaged parts of the body.So, they often treat patients near a joint (like a hip or knee) with multiple broken bones, compound fractures and fractures.
