Optical Biosensors

Optical biosensors provide distinct advantages over traditional analytical techniques in providing highly sensitive, precise, and cost-effective real-time and label-free detection of biological and chemical substances. The benefits include high specificity, high sensitivity, low size and cost-effectiveness. Multidisciplinary methods including microelectronics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMSs), micro / nanotechnologies, molecular biology, biotechnology and chemistry support optical biosensing.   Such advances, combined with the advantages of optical biosensing, have resulted in the last decade of exponential growth in applications. Optical biosensors are applied in the healthcare, environmental and biotech industries.
