The most common form is is an ischemic stroke. This is normally caused by a blood clot blocking or plugging a blood artery within the brain. This prevents blood from flowing towards the brain. Within minutes, brain cells start dying. Another cause is stenosis, or artery narrowning. A stroke is a medical emergency. Stroke signs include difficulty walking, communicating and understanding, as well as facial, arm or leg stiffness or numbness. An ischemic stroke occurs when blockage of an artery in the brain. Ischemic stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is clogged. This constitutes nearly 87 per cent of all strokes. One of three forms of stroke is is Ischemic stroke. It is also known as brain ischemia, and cerebral ischemia. This type of stroke is caused by blockage of a blood supply to the brain in an artery. The blockage limits the supply of blood and oxygen to the brain, resulting in brain cell injury or death. There are two primary causes of stroke: blocked artery (ischemical stroke) or blood vessel failure or bursting (hemorrhagic stroke).
