Hepatology is the medicine field dealing with researching the liver, gallbladder, biliary arm, and pancreas and treating their diseases. The term
hepatology is derived from the Greek words "hepatikos" and "logia," respectively meaning liver and study. Viral
hepatitis and drug induced infections and injuries are the primary justification to receive professional advice. By any stage in their life, more than two billion individuals have become diagnosed with
hepatitis B virus and about 350 million have been chronic carriers. Someone may assign up to 80 percent of liver cancers to either
hepatitis B or
hepatitis C virus. The former is second only to smoking in terms of mortal Smoking between established cancer-causing agents. Hepatic steatosis is characterized as at least 5 per cent of the liver weight intrahepatic fat. Simple accumulation of triacylglycerols in the liver may be hepatoprotective, but chronic storage of lipid can contribute to liver metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and advanced types of non-alcoholic
fatty liver disease. Obesity, type 2
diabetes and dyslipidemia are linked with nonalcoholic hepatic steatosis. The deposition of intrahepatic fat includes many pathways, including enhanced fatty acid transport to the liver, decreased de novo lipogenesis and/or reduced clearance by β-oxidation or very low-density lipoprotein secretion.
