Proteomics is the study of proteins on a major scale. Proteins are essential components of living organisms, which have many functions. The proteome is the whole set of proteins that an organism or system creates or modificates. Proteomics has made it possible to classify ever growing protein counts. This varies with the time and particular requirements that a cell or organism undergoes, or stresses that. Proteomics is an interdisciplinary discipline which has greatly benefited from the genetic knowledge of various
genome projects, including the Human
Genome Project. This involves study of proteomes from the overall composition , structure, and behavior of proteins. This is a major part of functional genomics.
