Family History Scholarly Peer-review Journal
A family medical
history is a record of a person's
health records and of his or her immediate relatives. A full record includes details from three generations of family members including children, brothers and sisters, parents, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, grandparents and cousins. Families have many common influences, including their parents, their
climate and their lifestyle. Together, these variables may provide indicators for medical problems that may occur within a family. Through identifying trends of disorders among families,
health care practitioners may assess whether an patient, other family members or future generations could be at an elevated risk of developing a medical condition.
