Different biological science fields use specific laboratory methods to determine the biological  samples physical and chemical composition. The information obtained from the study is provided as a report from a laboratory. There may be two types of reports in preparation. A qualitative report clearly indicates the presence or absence in a biological sample of a substance or group of substances, while a quantitative report defines the amount of a specific substance found in the sample. Biotechniques journal covers laboratory methods and techniques that are of broad interest to professional life scientists, as well as scientists from other disciplines (e.g. physics, chemistry, engineering, computer sciences) interested in life science applications of their technologies
