Biomarkers Importance
The use of
biomarkers for studying disease and developing novel treatment strategies is an emerging approach in many areas of drugs. This new paradigm is aimed toward using
biomarkers to enable diagnosis and treatment of diseases at the earliest possible time point for the utmost benefit to the patient. Other techniques are emerging which may analyze the function of intact cells, which is one step closer to integrating whole body analysis. This chapter provides basic knowledge of the principles behind these technologies and therefore the ir application within the laboratory and the clinic. The foremost important discoveries by these profiling platforms in psychiatric Research also are highlighted with a
stress on how such methods may soon be applied within the clinic to enhance the lives of patients.
