Proteomics is the large-scale functional study of proteins derived during growth or under particular conditions from intact species, tissues, individual cells or cell compartments. Proteomics is the study of an organism's protein complement. The proteome is diverse because proteins adjust in response to many factors, adapting to new challenges and environments. At one point in time the word translatom refers to the proteome. SDS-PAGE separates the proteins according to thickness. Interaction proteomics is the study of protein interactions from discrete to proteome- or network-wide interaction scales. Most proteins work through protein – protein interactions, and one goal of proteomic interaction is to recognize binary protein interactions, protein complexes, and interactions.
