Anti-Apoptotic Drug

Apoptotic cell death is a genetically programmed mechanism(s) that allows the cell to commit suicide. Apoptosis is critically important for the survival of multicellular organisms by getting rid of damaged or infected cells that may interfere with normal function. The extrinsic and intrinsic pathways represent the 2 major well-studied apoptotic processes. Anti-apoptosis is mechanistically distinct from apoptosis. Anti-apoptosis processes are commonly observed in apoptotic resistant cells. Multiple physiological and genetic processes mediate anti-apoptosis and cell survival. Autophagy can sometimes prevent and sometimes initiate cell death. Pro-survival processes may serve to inhibit some forms of necrosis.
