A transgene is a
gene that has been transmitted naturally, or by any of a number of
genetic engineering practices from one organism to another. The introduction of a transgene, in a procedure known as transgenesis, has the potential to variation the
phenotype of an organism. Transgene defines a segment of DNA having a
gene sequence that has been isolated from one organism and is familiarised into a different organism. This non-native segment of DNA may either retain the capability to yield RNA or protein in the transgenic organism or modify the normal function of the transgenic organism's genetic code. In general, the DNA is combined into the organism's germ line. For example, in complex vertebrates this can be consummate by vaccinating the foreign DNA into the nucleus of a fertilized ovum.
Genetic modification may be a special set of cistron technology that alters the genetic machinery of such living organisms as animals, plants or microorganisms. Combining genes from completely different organisms is thought as deoxyribonucleic acid technology and therefore the ensuing organism is alleged to be ‘Genetically changed (GM)’, ‘Genetically engineered’ or ‘Transgenic’. The principal transgenic crops big commercially in field square measure chemical and insect powder resistant soybeans, corn, cotton and canola. alternative crops big commercially and/or field-tested square measure sweet potato proof against a pestilence that would destroy most of the African harvest,
rice with accumulated iron and vitamins that will alleviate chronic deficiency disease in Asian countries and a range of plants that square measure ready to survive weather extremes.
