Earth sciences, the fields of study that concern the solid Earth, its waters, and the air that surrounds it. The geological, hydrological, and atmospheric sciences are included. It enables the development, and to devise ways of checking the relative validity of opposing ideas. Earth scientists use their knowledge of Earth to locate energy and mineral resources and develop them. Others are studying the impact of human activity on the
environment on Earth, and designing methods to protect the planet. The knowledge of Earth processes like volcanoes, earthquakes, and hurricanes to plan communities that won't expose people to these dangerous happenings. It is worth highlighting two important features common to the three Earth Sciences divisions. First is that many of the objects of study are inaccessible. Many rocks in the Earth are at great depths, as well as water and oil reservoirs, while air masses circulate at vast heights above it. The Earth scientist must thus have a good 3-dimensional perspective. Second, the fourth dimension is in there: time. The Earth scientist works out how the Earth has evolved over millions of years. Earth Sciences and Geo-Hazards Risk Reduction Section builds capacity and fosters partnerships so that Earth Sciences and Technology can serve to mitigate the effects of threats and reduce vulnerability, enhance scientific knowledge and enhance community living conditions and well-being.
