Sesquiterpene

Sesquiterpenes are a class of terpenes composed of three units of isoprene and often have the molecular formula C15H24. Sesquiterpenes may be acyclic like monoterpenes or include rings with several special combinations.   Like so many other groups of terpenes and other natural products, sesquiterpenes have drawn tremendous interest because of the roles they perform in biological processes and their utility for human uses. One of the features that serves to differentiate sesquiterpenes from many of the other natural product groups, however, is the thousands of different sesquiterpene compounds known.
