Reputed Textile Science Journals
Forensic textile science may be a relatively young discipline; fibre identification is that the most established component of this discipline. Textile products of interest to the forensic scientist include individual fibres, yarns, fabrics, apparel household textiles and furnishings and are hierarchical structures; fibres are wont to manufacture yarns which are wont to manufacture fabrics which are successively wont to manufacture products like apparel, curtains, sheets, etc. Such products are often potential evidence in criminal investigations; typically supporting in nature. Of particular interest is damage caused to apparel during an alleged incident, fibre identification with reference to trace evidence and the way blood interacts with fabrics. The correct and full description of a textile product using the acceptable discipline's terminology is critical and thus this Chapter provides a quick introduction to textile science terminology. An efficient and profitable transition from a complete reliance on production to more customization (performance differential) approaches within the textile industry would require total coordination between textile science, textile technology, and textile engineering. Such coordination will necessitate greater attention to product diversity and applications, which means more emphasis on research and development in the textile industry without ignoring the aspect of textile experience and creative tasks. Obviously, subjective approaches will remain a part of this industry, but a greater effort should be made to convert many subjective approaches into more objective methodologies. This is particularly true for key consumer descriptive characteristics like aesthetics and luxury , protection, performance, and easy-care properties. This subject will be discussed in more detail throughout this book.
