Psychosocial-rehabilitation

PSR is a recovery approach intended to help people with disabilities change their lives. Psychosocial therapy seeks to develop emotional, cognitive , and social skills that help people living with mental illness function and operate as independently as possible within their communities. PSR makes use of what is known as the mental illness treatment model. Full recovery is always the aim but a phase rather than an outcome is seen as full recovery. This approach focuses on the healing potential of the individual and focuses on empowerment, social inclusion, encouragement, and coping skills. PSR therapies are multidisciplinary in nature, and are frequently biopsychosocial. This view acknowledges that mental illness affects many aspects of life including the biological, social , and psychological environment. Not only are psychiatric disorders influencing each of these processes but they are often inextricably interlinked. If anything affects one area, it is expected to also have an effect on other areas.
