Protein Calorie Malnutrition (PCM) or Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) is one of our country's most common nutritional deficiency diseases and poses a health concern in children under the age of 5. This paper explains the clinical characteristics of this malnutrition including kwashiorkor, marasmus, and kwashiorkor marasmic. It also explains the biochemical changes that occur during protein calorie malnutrition including protein , carbohydrates, fat, water and electrolyte metabolisms, hormonal changes, hematological changes, pathological changes and changes in mental growth. It also gives an idea of the steps that could be taken to prevent this dietary syndrome.
