Paget Disease Innovations

Paget's bone disease is a chronic skeletal disease. In healthy bones, a process called remodelling removes old pieces of bone and replaces them with new, fresh bone. Paget's disease causes this process to shift unbalanced, producing new bone that is not normal, weak and brittle. Paget's bone disease most often occurs in the pelvis, skull, spine and legs. Risk factors include growing age and family background. Over time, the affected bone may become brittle and deformed. This condition can be asymptomatic for long periods of time. When symptoms appear, they may include bone deformities, broken bones and pain in the affected area. Treatment involves medication that reduces bone damage.
