Nephrology Open Access Journals

Nephrology concerns the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, including electrolyte disturbances and hypertension, and therefore the case of these requiring renal replacement therapy, including dialysis and renal transplantation for  patients. Dialysis replaces the first (excretory) function of the kidney, which separates (and removes) excess toxins and water from the blood, placing them within the urine. Many diseases affecting the kidney are systemic disorders not limited to the organ itself, and should require special treatment. Examples include acquired conditions like systemic vasculitides (e.g. ANCA vasculitis) and autoimmune diseases (e.g., lupus), also as congenital or genetic conditions like polycystic renal disorder. Patients are mentioned nephrology specialists after a urinalysis, for various reasons, like acute renal failure, chronic renal disorder, hematuria, proteinuria, kidney stones, hypertension, and disorders of acid/base or electrolytes.
