Maternal-fetal Medicine (MFM) Open Access Articles
Maternal – fetal medicine (MFM), also known as perinatology, is a medicine branch that focuses on treating mother and fetus
health issues before, during, and shortly after birth. Specialists in maternal – fetal medicine are physicists who subspecialize in the area of obstetrics. Their research usually includes a four-year residency in gynecology and obstetrics, followed by a three-year fellowship. They may conduct prenatal testing, provide treatments, and perform surgery. In especially high-risk pregnancies, they serve both as a nurse during low-risk pregnancies, and as the primary obstetrician. They can work closely with paediatrists or neonatologists after birth. Perinatologists help with pre-existing
health concerns for the mother, as well as complications caused by pregnancy.
