Lactobacillus Acidophilus Open Access Journals
Lactobacilli acidophilus are bacteria. They are also called L. acidophilus. They make lactic acid by breaking down carbohydrates. This is mainly done by breaking down the sugar lactose in milk. Many different strains can be found in
milk foods. They can also be found in the intestinal tracts and vaginas of adults. And they are found in the intestinal tracts of babies fed with formula. Some strains of Lactobacilli are wont to make cheese and yogurt. These are Lactobacillus bulgaricus.L. Acidophilus occurs naturally within the human and animal alimentary canal and mouth. Some strains of L. acidophilus may be considered to have probiotic characteristics. These strains are commercially utilized in many dairy products, sometimes alongside Streptococcus thermophiles and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus within the production of acidophilus-type yogurt, or acidophiline. Its
genome has been sequenced. This bacteria is a component of the traditional flora of the human and animal mouth, intestinal tract, and vagina. As normal flora, it helps to stop overgrowth of probably harmful bacteria by maintaining an acidic environment. Acidophilus and a few related bacteria are considered to be "probiotic" because they'll help the body maintain or restore its normal balance of helpful bacteria. The use of antibiotics can decimate the traditional flora within the body. Some healthcare professionals recommend
probiotics to counter the side effect of antibiotic use. L. acidophilus is found in
milk and fermented products like yogurt with "active cultures" and within the sort of supplements.
