Global Problem

Global Environmental Issues is a phrase referring to the effects of human actions on the climate, in particular on the fire of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) and large-scale deforestation, which causes large quantities of 'greenhouse gases' emissions into the atmosphere, the most important of which is carbon dioxide. Such gasses take up Earth's surface emitted infrared radiation and act as blankets over the surface keeping it warmer than it would otherwise be. Weather patterns are related to this warming. The fundamental science of the 'greenhouse effect' that leads to heating is well implied. More detailed understanding is based on numerical climate models which integrate the basic dynamic and physical equations which describe the entire climate system. Many of the possible features of the subsequent climate changes (such as more intense heat waves, rainfall decreases, frequency and severity decrease in certain extreme climate events) can be established. Significant uncertainties remain in the knowledge of some of the climate system feedbacks (which affect the overall magnitude of change) and in much of the detail of likely regional change.
