Geomorphology

Geomorphology is the study and formation of the landforms, sediments and their processes on the surface of the earth and other planets. The study also includes the viewing of landscapes and the earth surface processes, such as air, water and ice. These landforms are produced by erosion and deposition of the rock and sediment on the earth-surface and is later transported and deposited to different localities through various processes. Geomorphologists understand these landforms by mapping their distribution through their occurrence. The diverse discipline that applies a very basic geomorphological principles to all environments such as aeolian, glacial and periglacial geomorphologies, volcanic and tectonic geomorphologies and so on. Most of the research in geomorphology is purely based on the multi-disciplinary studies that combines the knowledge and perspectives with subjects such as ecology, geology, civil engineering, hydrology and soil science.
