A geographic data system (GIS) may be a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present every type of geographical data. The key word to the current technology is
Geography – this implies that some portion of the
information is spatial. In other words, data that's in a way referenced to locations on the planet.
Coupled with this data is sometimes tabular data called attribute data. Attribute data are often generally defined as additional
information about each of the spatial features. An example of this is able to be schools. the particular location of the colleges is that the spatial data. Additional data like the college name, level of
education taught, student capacity would frame the attribute data.
It is the partnership of those two data types that allows GIS to be such a good problem solving tool through spatial analysis.
GIS is quite just software. People and methods are combined with geospatial software and tools, to enable spatial analysis, manage large datasets, and display
information in a very map/graphical form.
GIS is used as tool in both problem solving and deciding processes, similarly as for visualization of knowledge during a spatial environment. Geospatial data will be analyzed to work out (1) the situation of features and relationships to other features, (2) where the foremost and/or least of some feature exists, (3) the density of features in a very given space, (4) what's happening inside a section of interest (AOI), (5) what's happening nearby some feature or phenomenon, and (6) and the way a particular area has changed over time (and in what way).
