General Practice Concise Communication

General Practice concise communication is good healthcare and ensuring patients receive safe care. General Practice communications reduce the likelihood of patient complaints and claims. Fundamental to patient safety is effective communication between all members of the practice team, as well as between the practice team members and patients. Problems are because of a breakdown in communication within practice. Similarly, the primary – secondary care interface is an area where communication can easily breakdown, which can contribute to adverse incidents. Establishing clear communication within practice is to underpinning safe patient care and can help to avoid adverse incidents. The GMC also advocates are importance of good communication between healthcare teams. Multidisciplinary teams can bring benefits to patient care when communication is timely and relevant, but problems can arise when communication is poor or responsibilities are unclear. General practice team should focus on developing and maintaining robust systems for sharing information. According to Medical Protection’s Clinical Risk Assessment programme findings, 81% of practices are risks associated with internal communication within general practice. Medical revisions all over the world in the last 20 years have increased the number of teaching hours in communication skills.  Communication skills teaching programme focused on general practice. Since the spring of 1992, more than 2,000 physicians from Denmark, Sweden and Finland have attended courses within this programme in Kalymnos, Greece. Training mainly takes place in groups of 8 doctors and 1 supervisor. Skills training is based on video feedback using the Window Supervision Method.We have also defined the 9 steps in an effective consultation process, which are in PRACTICAL. The major issue is to discriminate between patients and doctors, the shared part of the communication process. In our experience, this model shortens the consultation time to c. 15 minutes as doctors collaborate their patients and build up an agreed agenda in order to deal effectively with the main problems of patients.
